Hello Everyone,
Please visit the GHC Cartersville Campus Library to enjoy a photographic exhibition entitled, “Pieces of Saint Petersburg,” by GHC’s very own Jeff Brown!
Here is a description of the exhibition:
“Pieces of Saint Petersburg” is a project that includes a collection of photographs taken from 2007 through 2011 in St. Petersburg, Russia. The work displayed in this exhibition depicts various landmarks and architectural structures taken primarily from a nontraditional point of view. Inspiration for the series comes from the idea of striving to achieve unique angles of view that aid in providing the images with uncommon or distinct looks. These views can come from something as simple as a reflection, time of day, or a distinctive portion of a building. The exhibition was put together by Jeff Brown from the Georgia Highlands College Digital Media Services Department.
According to Brown, “When I photograph a subject, I walk all around it, looking for a different view that is not typically visible upon the first examination. I have put together some of my favorite views of the city that hopefully will inspire our students to look at common things from a different perspective.”
Brown is currently the director of the Digital Media Services Department. One of his roles provides him the opportunity to assist the College Relations department with photography services for brochures and publications. He has taken part in numerous study-abroad trips to Europe in both leadership and teaching roles where he taught photography. In 2008 he was awarded an honorary doctoral degree from the Saint Petersburg State Polytechnical University for his work in international studies. His images are used by the university to assist in promoting their international education programs.
The exhibition will be on display throughout the Fall 2013 semester.
Please encourage your students to enjoy this exhibition as well!
Thanks,
Elijah
