BC now officially ‘Bainbridge State College’
By DALE FULLER
BSC Excecutive Director of Institutional Advancement
Bainbridge College (BC) is no more. During their Feb. 13 meeting, the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia approved a request to officially change the name of the institution to Bainbridge State College (BSC). This approval came on the heels of approval from the Regents to grant BC the new status of a four-year college, thus the name change to reflect the new “state college” status.

KSU football plan approved, hopes to field team in 2015
By Doug Roberson
Kennesaw State has its football program.
The Board of Regents approved the university’s financial plan to support football and other Title IX initiatives on Wednesday, fulfilling a dream that began in 2008. KSU hopes to play as possibly as early as 2014, but more than likely will start in 2015.

Kennesaw State finally adding actual football team: 2015 the target
By Jason Kirk
A process more than eight years in the works has resulted in another process that will be years in the works, but it’s a football program.
Kennesaw State, the state of Georgia’s third-largest university, has revealed its long-delayed football program will actually produce a FCS team that will actually take the field, ideally in 2015. Its regents approved a plan Wednesday to hike student fees in support of the new program, plus multiple Title IX additions.

Fish ‘janitors’ said vital to coral reefs
ATLANTA, Feb. 13 (UPI) — Herbivorous marine fish can be picky eaters, U.S. scientists say, which could spell trouble for endangered reef systems that depend on the fish as “cleaners.” Researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology say studies in the Fiji Islands showed just four species of fish were primarily responsible for removing common and potentially harmful seaweeds from reefs, and each type of seaweed is eaten by a different fish species.

Talking Tech | Atlanta is ‘Hotlanta’ for tech start-ups
ATLANTA — You can buy a small home in the suburbs here for as little as $100,000. Food and transportation can be more affordable than in its Northern big-city counterparts. Yet Atlanta is the USA’s ninth largest city, with a metro population of nearly 6 million. …Local university Georgia Tech has 40 companies working at its Advanced Technology Development Center, which it calls the largest and oldest campus-based tech incubator in the nation. It, too, has a waiting list of 21 companies wanting to participate. Firms get to stay at the ATDC for up to three years. Georgia Tech has no investment in the companies. Its intent, instead, is to help create jobs by helping small businesses get off the ground, says Stephen Fleming, a Georgia Tech vice-president.
