The Six Mile Post took first place in the two-year college newspaper category at the 62nd Southern Regional Press Institute at Savannah State University on Feb. 22. The Stallion from Abrahan Baldwin came in second.
The Six Mile Post also took first place in photography, first place in editorial and column writing, second place in feature writing, and second place in sports writing. (There are far fewer award categories here than in the Georgia College Press Association competition, and only first and second place awards are given.)
The award winners were Andrew West (two awards), Ryan Jones, Mark Ewings.
Representing GHC at the press institute were Andrew West, SMP editor; Sarah Lane, assistant print editor; and Ebenezer Mulugeta, staff photographer. Kristie Kemper, SMP adviser, and Cindy Wheeler, assistant adviser, accompanied the students and also conducted a workshop on writing in the digital age.
