The diversity initiatives committee of Georgia Highlands College (GHC) has created awards to honor those who put forth great effort toward the advancement of diversity and multiculturalism in higher education. There are four distinctions that will be recognized for the 2012-2013 academic year.
Diversity Student Leadership Award: This award will be given to a student or students who(m) demonstrate(s) a significant contribution toward the advancement of diversity in higher education by serving as a mentor, role model, or a leader of a underrepresented student group.
Diversity Student Educator Award: This award will be given to a student or students who(m) demonstrate(s) a significant contribution toward the advancement of diversity in higher education by increasing multicultural awareness through educational means such as presentations, discussion forums, papers, etc…
Diversity Team Award: This award will be given to a group of individuals (e.g., a student club, a specific course or class, an educational unit of the college, etc…) who demonstrate a significant contribution toward the advancement of diversity in higher education by collectively raising social consciousness regarding diversity through various educational means.
Diversity GHC Employee Award: This award will be given to an employee(s) or who(m) demonstrates a significant contribution toward the advancement of diversity in higher education by engaging the GHC community in dialog that clarifies the meaning of diversity as well as emphasizes its importance in higher education.
