Georgia Highlands College (GHC) is excited to announce the return of its Annual Youth Fishing Rodeo on Saturday, June 14, at Paris Lake on the Floyd Campus, 3175 Cedartown Hwy, Rome, GA 30161. The event is free and open to all children 15 and under, offering a morning of outdoor fun, friendly competition, and family-friendly activities.
Fishing begins at 8:30 AM, and the last weigh-in for prizes is at 11:30 AM. Children must bring their own fishing equipment, but free loaner rods and reels will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Participants will have the opportunity to win prizes for the biggest fish in four age categories:
- 5 and under
- 6 to 8
- 9 to 11
- 12 to 15
Winners will be announced at 11:40 AM at the main pavilion. All fish must be weighed on the official event scale to be eligible for prizes. In the event of a tie, the fish weighed first will be awarded the top prize. Parents and guardians may assist young participants but are not allowed to fish on their behalf.
In addition to fishing, the event will feature free children’s activities, a raffle with great prizes, and food available for purchase. The raffle helps support the continuation of this free annual event.
“This event reflects GHC’s strong commitment to community engagement and creating memorable experiences for families in our region,” Jason Christian, Dean of the School of STEM, said. “We welcome everyone to join us for a fun-filled morning at the lake.”
The event is supported by generous sponsors including the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Rome-Floyd Parks & Recreation, Bayne’s Fishing and Outdoors, Davis Fish Farms, Evans Construction, Chick-fil-A, Texas Roadhouse, Walmart, SweetFrog, Tellus Science Museum, and many more.
