On Monday, August 26, from 9AM to 2PM, you can help Georgia Highlands College (GHC) fight food insecurity while promoting healthy lifestyles and supporting local businesses during the first Student Government Association (SGA) Farmers’ Market, to be held at the Cartersville site, 5441 GA-20, in Cartersville.
Proceeds from the $10 vendor fee for the event will support the college’s Charger Food Pantry.
“We are looking for food and produce, as well as arts and crafts vendors to come out to this great event,” Student Affairs Assistant Ashley Baxter said. “It’s an opportunity to connect students and community members while also helping a great cause.”
According to a 2023 research report by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) 22.6% of undergraduate students reported low or very low food security, and another 11.9% reported marginal food insecurity within the research period. Using NCES’ enrollment data, approximately 3.9 million undergraduates experience food insecurity.
In addition to supporting the Charger Food Pantry, the event will feature a variety of local produce along with opportunities for the community to meet students and learn more about GHC.
The event will be held at the Cartersville site August 26 from 9AM to 2PM.
