Lab: Faculty Mindset

Synchronous Wrap-Up Zoom Meeting: Fri, October 15  |  12:00-12:30 pm

CETL labs facilitate asynchronous hands-on engagement with pedagogical professional development over a four-day period in preparation for a culminating synchronous meeting. Participants in this lab should expect to work independently for 4 hours. We will explore the fixed and growth mindset and examine the influence of a faculty’s mindset on student success. We will discuss strategies to improve student mindsets through course design and class climate.


Creative Assignments

Tired of the traditional essay and exam? Why not change things up a bit? We will introduce and explain a variety of creative assignments which can be adapted to various course contexts to facilitate memorable learning experiences and meaningful assessment. Workshop participants will identify strategies & resources for developing creative assignments and design a creative assignment to implement in their classes.


Online Teaching: Design & Delivery

Synchronous Wrap-Up Zoom Meeting: Fri, November 5, 12:00-12:30 pm

This two-week mostly asynchronous workshop course explores the research and practices for online course design and course delivery. The workshop is delivered using D2L, the authentic environment, and models best practices in design and delivery for the participants. The workshop closes with a synchronous presentation (Nov 5 from 12:00-12:30). The objectives of this workshop are to:

  • Explore Understanding by Design (Backward Design)
  • Recognize the Quality Matters standards and their importance to online course design
  • Discuss the difference between design and delivery
  • Create a facilitation plan to support presence, time mgmt., feedback
  • Describe ways to promote student engagement in online courses
  • Identify technology tools that will add to your online instruction
