HR SPOTLIGHT – FMLA- FAMILY AND MEDICAL LEAVE

FMLA allows employees to balance their work and family lives by taking reasonable unpaid leave for certain family and medical reasons. The FMLA seeks to accomplish this in a manner that accommodates the legitimate interests of employers, minimizes the potential for employment discrimination on the basis of gender, while promoting equal employment opportunity for men and women.

If you encounter a reason in which you will need to be way from work for more than 3 days, contact Human Resources. Human Resources will gladly discuss with you the options available to you based on your individual situation.

Eligibility: To be eligible for FMLA leave, an employee must have been:
• Employed by the institution for at least 12 months (need not be continuous).
• Working at least 1,250 hours during the previous 12-month period (unless absent on military leave).
• Working at a location where the institution employees at least 50 people within a 75-mile radius.
