CAIRO, Ga. — For some, the hardest part of going to college is getting started. Albany State University has made that process easier with a free application day Thursday, July 30 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at its Cairo, Ga., site. “The opportunity for an outstanding college education is literally within reach,” said Paul Bryant, ASU’s associate provost for enrollment management. “The small class sizes and one-on-one faculty attention makes the Cairo site an attractive option for many students in the surrounding area.” In addition to the waived $25 application fee, prospective students are guaranteed a rapid admissions response with the submission of official high school and college transcripts, a valid driver’s license, and immunization records, said Sarah Rogers, the ASU off-campus programs liaison at the Albany State Cairo site, located on the campus of Southern Regional Technical College of Grady County.

The Georgia jobless rate is the lowest it has been in seven years. This comes as good news but not as a surprise to fourth year student Alex Christensen. “I was told that with the University of Georgia, most people have a job within three months of graduating so that boosted my confidence some and with the rate being low right now, it’s encouraging as well,” Christensen said. Georgia’s jobless rate currently stands at 6.1 percent, down from 6.3 percent in May. …According to recent labor statistics, Georgia is outpacing the nation in economic growth.
