Allison Hattaway, Area Coordinator


The first two years of the journalism core, leading to an associate of arts degree and easy transfer to a four-year college to complete a bachelor’s degree in communications or journalism with specialization in print or broadcast journalism, advertising, or public relations.

Practical experience in writing, layout and design, art, photography, desk-top publishing, and computer graphics from working with the Six Mile Post (award-winning print and online student news organization)—paid positions include editor in chief, managing editors for sports, online, and design/graphics, an assistant online editor, an assistant sports editor, an advertising manager, a chief photographer, and campus coordinators for Cartersville, Marietta, Douglasville, and Paulding ; many unpaid positions are also available

Critiques of work and awards for special group or individual achievement through the Georgia College Press Association, the Southern Regional Press Institute, and the Associated Collegiate Press

Participation in the Georgia College Press Association’s annual press institute, with the opportunity to run for state office (Georgia Highlands College students have served as GCPA president three times and have held numerous other GCPA offices.)
